About the class
English Explorers: KS1 Reading & Writing
Discover sounds, explore stories and have fun with words!
English Explorers is a friendly, interactive group for learners building the foundations of confident reading and writing.
Through stories, word games, reading challenges, creative activities and plenty of imagination, learners will crack the phonics code, practise reading with confidence and expression, build brilliant sentences, explore characters and stories, discover exciting new vocabulary and develop their spelling and handwriting.
The focus is on learning by doing — reading aloud, active listening, talking about stories, playing with words, creating sentences and having a go at writing — with activities designed to support different confidence levels.
Learners will also receive a fun optional home assignment each week, giving them the chance to continue exploring what we've been learning between lessons. These might include a mini word hunt, reading challenge, story activity or short creative writing mission. They're completely optional — no pressure, no grades — just an extra opportunity to practise, create and build confidence at home.
Across the year, learners will build the core skills they need to become happy, confident and increasingly independent readers and writers.
There are 6 blocks per year (term time), with 6 lessons in each block.
