About the class
English for Life & Work
* Pre-Qualification > continue to study iGCSE English Language, iGCSE English Litrature or Functional Skills English (Level 2) which is equivalent to a GCSE Grade 4 / C. This is widely accepted by employers, colleges, and many universities as proof of basic English literacy.
Build the confidence and practical English skills needed for everyday life, further study and future qualifications.
English for Life & Work is a supportive group for learners who are not yet ready to begin Functional Skills Level 2 or iGCSE, as well as those who want to strengthen their core English skills or rebuild confidence after gaps in learning.
Through friendly, small-group live lessons, learners develop reading, writing, speaking, listening, spelling, punctuation and grammar through purposeful activities and real-life situations. From understanding information and writing emails to discussing ideas, exploring different texts and producing longer pieces of writing, learners will gradually become more confident and independent English users.
The course also introduces the comprehension, analytical and extended-writing skills learners will need as they move towards higher-level English study, creating a clear bridge between core English skills and qualification-level learning.
Optional Home Assignments are available each week for learners who would like additional practice. These reinforce the skills covered during lessons and help learners build confidence and independence between sessions.
Progress to: Functional Skills English Level 2 • iGCSE English Language • iGCSE English Literature
