About the class
KS1+ English
Take reading and writing further with our exciting KS1+ English Group!
Designed for confident KS1 learners and those ready for extra challenge, these small-group lessons deepen comprehension, broaden vocabulary and develop more independent writing through engaging texts, discussion and creative activities.
Learners will explore a wider range of fiction, poetry and non-fiction while building confidence in grammar, spelling and communication.
Each block encourages children to think more deeply, explain their ideas and become increasingly fluent readers and writers.
Every session is interactive, encouraging curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of language.
There are 6 blocks per year (term time) with 6 lessons in each block.
1 Year
BLOCK 7 – Non-Fiction & Information Texts
Instructions, information texts, simple reports, labels, captions, fact and opinion, research skills and organising information.

Poetry, rhyme, rhythm, repetition, performance, expression, imagery, vocabulary and reciting from memory.

Planning stories, descriptive writing, exciting vocabulary, expanding sentences, editing, improving and publishing writing.

Word classes, conjunctions, prefixes, suffixes, apostrophes, punctuation, sentence variety, tense and improving accuracy.

Discussions, presentations, storytelling, role play, asking and answering questions, listening skills and speaking confidently for different audiences.

Applying reading, writing, spelling, grammar and speaking skills through exciting texts, author studies, collaborative projects and independent challenges.
