KS2+ English


Take English to the next level with our engaging KS2+ English Group!


These small-group lessons deepen reading, writing and communication skills through richer texts, thoughtful discussion and purposeful writing challenges.


Learners will explore non-fiction, persuasive writing, poetry, literature and advanced grammar while developing the confidence to analyse, debate, explain and write independently. Every lesson encourages critical thinking, creativity and clear communication, helping learners prepare for the transition to KS3 English.


There are 6 blocks per year (term time) with 6 lessons in each block.


1 Year 


BLOCK 7 – Non-Fiction & Explanation
Reports, explanations, instructions, research, note-taking, organisation and formal vocabulary.

BLOCK 8 – Persuasion, Argument & Debate
Persuasive writing, balanced arguments, speeches, discussion, debate, audience and purpose.

Poetry, imagery, metaphor, simile, personification, rhythm, performance and comparing poems.

Grammar, punctuation, apostrophes, commas, inverted commas, colons, semicolons, brackets, dashes, cohesion across paragraphs and editing.

Themes, author's intent, comparing texts, analysing language, evaluating evidence and thoughtful book discussion.

Planning, drafting, editing, publishing, sustained writing, presentation, reflection and applying the full KS2 English curriculum independently.

Exploring the features of reports, explanations, instructions and information texts, identifying purpose and audience + recognising how non-fiction is organised.

Week 4

Week 4 – Instruction Experts

Writing clear instructions using imperative verbs, time connectives and numbered steps + ensuring readers can follow a process successfully.

Week 2

Week 2 – Report Writers

Researching a topic, organising facts into clear sections, using headings and subheadings + writing informative reports.

Week 5

Week 5 – Research & Note-Making

Finding reliable information from a range of sources, identifying key facts, taking organised notes and summarising information + preparing to write independently

Week 3

Week 3 – Explain It Clearly

Writing explanation texts that show how or why something happens, using logical sequencing, technical vocabulary and clear organisation + helping readers understand complex ideas.

Week 6

Week 6 – Information Showcase!

Planning, researching and creating a high-quality non-fiction text by applying reports, explanations, instructions, note-taking and formal vocabulary together + celebrating confident information writing.
