Tell the Time!
All ages / mixed ability
A fun, practical and interactive 6-week course designed to help learners finally get confident with clocks and time!
Each week uses games, challenges, visual clocks and real-life situations, with activities adapted so beginners can master the basics while more confident learners tackle trickier time problems.
What you'll learn this block
Week 1
Clock Detectives - Getting to know the clock
Understanding what the numbers on an analogue clock represent
Recognising the hour hand and minute hand
Understanding clockwise movement
Making and reading o'clock times
Quick-fire Show Me the Time! clock challenges
Challenge: Can you work out where the hands would be at different o'clock times?
Week 4
Minute Masters
Reading time to 5 minutes and 1 minute
Counting around the clock in 5-minute intervals
Understanding why each number represents another 5 minutes
Reading times such as 2:10, 4:25, 7:40 and 9:55
Progressing towards reading to the nearest minute
Connecting analogue and digital notation
Challenge: Mystery Time – reveal clues one by one and work out the hidden time.
Week 2
Half Past Heroes - O'clock and half past
Revisiting o'clock
Understanding what half past actually means
Recognising 30 minutes = half an hour
Reading and making o'clock and half-past times
Matching analogue clocks to digital times
Game: Beat the Clock – race to make the time correctly.
Week 5
Time in the Real World
Using time rather than simply reading it
Understanding am and pm
Exploring the 12-hour and 24-hour clock
Putting everyday events into a sensible time order
Reading simple timetables and schedules
Working out how long everyday activities take
Mission: Plan My Day – solve real-life time challenges involving journeys, activities, meals, lessons or appointments.

Quarter-Time Challenge
Quarter past and quarter to
Understanding a quarter of a clock
Learning quarter past and quarter to
Recognising 15, 30 and 45 minutes around the clock
Connecting analogue and digital times
Avoiding the common confusion between quarter to and quarter past
Game: Which Clock Wins? – find the correct clock before the countdown ends.
Week 6
The Great Race Against Time!
Putting everything together
A fast-moving final session of games and challenges covering:
O'clock
Half past
Quarter past and quarter to
5-minute and 1-minute intervals
Analogue and digital clocks
am and pm
12-hour and 24-hour time
Simple elapsed-time problems
Learners progress through increasingly tricky Time Trials, so everyone can participate at their own level.
Final challenge: Can you become a Time Master?
